It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much-loved friend and colleague, Thomas Eaglen. Tom was the principal baritone of Heritage Opera, and joined the company for its second production, Eugene Onegin, in 2007. Tom played many leading roles for the company, including Papageno, Onegin, Count Almaviva, Aeneas, Guglielmo, Marcello, Leporello, Yamadori and Sparafucile. He also created the role of Edmund Bertram in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park. Tom appeared for many other companies, including Opera North, and we were always delighted to have him back with us each season. He was also a very skilled carpenter, and made many of our sets and props. Tom had been ill for some time, but continued to work whenever he could. He was like a brother to us. We will miss him and never forget him.
Tom’s wife, Elinor, has sent this information about Tom’s funeral:
“Tom’s funeral will take place on Friday 15th June and I’d love to see anyone who knew and loved Tom.
2pm St George’s Church, Buxton Road, Stockport, SK2 6NU
3.15pm Rowan Chapel, Stockport Crematorium
Followed by a gathering at Stockport Cricket Club, Beech Road, SK3 8HD
Dress: It’s a funeral and we’re going to church so wear black if you want to or if you normally do anyway. Otherwise, wear whatever you like or maybe whatever reminds you of Tom. Flat caps, brown in general, Barbour, lumberjack shirts, pink shirts, paint overalls, tails, cycling wear…(these may not all be serious suggestions) Singers: let me, Sarah Helsby Hughes, Nick Sales or Rachel Gilmore know if you’d like to sing Bruckner Ave Maria. FYI the hymns are Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer and Thine Be the Glory. There will be harmonies and descants. Let’s raise the roof.
Cake makers: if you fancy baking something for the gathering that would be fantastic.
Flowers: since Tom is being cremated, no flowers please but donations in Tom’s memory to St Ann’s hospice would be hugely appreciated https://thomas-Eaglen.muchloved.com/
